Thermal Storage Design and Construction Management
This project required the design of new MEP systems and site utilities for a new school. The design work included extensive underground manhole systems for 15KV circuits and communication cables, electrical distribution, HVAC, boilers, plumbing, fire protection and detection, energy controls and telecommunications systems. HVAC design includes a 172-ton chiller system.

A hybrid cooling system, which included CALMAC ICEBANK® thermal-energy storage tanks and chillers were installed, which made and stored ice at night during off-peak times when utility rates are far less expensive and when cleaner baseload plants are used, while still providing a cool and very comfortable environment for occupants.

This reduced cooling costs by up to 40% by shifting a building's energy demand from on-peak to off-peak electric times.
